The Science of Market Timing

Most indie developers pick a release date based on when the game is "finished." Professional publishers pick a date based on competitiveness. Here is why:

The NextFest Hangover

The 7 days after NextFest are the most dangerous. Hundreds of developers launch simultaneously to catch demo hype, creating a "noise floor" that makes organic discovery nearly impossible.

Seasonal Sale Blackouts

During Summer or Winter sales, Steam's "New & Trending" algorithm is suppressed in favor of "Deep Discounts." Unless you are launching with a 50% discount, stay away.

The Tuesday/Wednesday Rule

Launching early in the week gives you 5 days of "Launch Momentum" before the weekend. It also ensures Steam staff are in the office if your build has issues.

AAA Avoidance

Check the "Yearly" view to identify when major franchises (Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed) launch. They consume all gaming press and influencer bandwidth for weeks.
