How to Play: Basic Controls

Use this guide to learn the basic controls for moving, fighting, managing your character, and using the game interface.

Movement

Use W, A, S, and D to move your character through the world. These keys let you move forward, move backward, and turn left or right.

Use Q and E to strafe left or right. Strafing lets you move sideways while still facing the same direction, which is useful during combat.

Press Space to jump.

Press R to toggle autorun. Autorun makes your character keep moving forward without holding down a movement key. Press R again or use another movement key to stop.

Targeting and Combat

Press Tab to target a nearby enemy. This is the fastest way to select something hostile before attacking.

Press H to target the nearest friendly character.

Press J to cycle between friendly targets. This is useful for healers or support players who need to quickly switch between allies.

Press F to interact with objects, talk to characters, or loot enemies.

Use the number row, 1 through 0, to activate your action bar abilities. These are your main combat skills, spells, attacks, and utility abilities. A second action bar is available on the numpad.

Interface

Press Esc to open the game menu and options.

Press C to open your character pane, where you can view your gear, stats, and equipped items.

Press P to open your spellbook and view your available abilities.

Press L to open your quest log and review your current quests.

Press M to open the world map.

Press B to open your bags and inventory.

Press N to open your talents.

Press O to open your friends and guild panel.

Press G to open the arena menu.

Press K to view the leaderboard.

Press V to toggle nameplates on or off.

Hold X to open the emote wheel.

Press Enter to open chat and type a message.

Camera

Hold Right Mouse Button and drag to control the camera with mouselook. This lets you turn your view and steer your character more directly.

Hold Left Mouse Button and drag to orbit the camera around your character without changing the direction your character is facing.

Use the Mouse Wheel to zoom the camera in or out.

Beginner Tip

Start by learning movement, targeting, and your first few action bar abilities. Once those feel comfortable, open your character pane, quest log, map, and bags often. These menus will help you understand where to go, what to do next, and how to keep your character ready for adventure.
